WATER
The water collection and treatment system is composed of two, twenty foot shipping containers. The water is collected from a 60' square hood that funnels the water through the porous surface of the shipping container. The water is then pumped into header tanks adjacent to the shipping containers, which then supplies water to a series of porous clay filters for purification. The treated water then pools into a communal collection tank that can be allocated as a clean water source. The properties and effectiveness of the porous clay materials have been studied by Prof. Wole Soboyejo at Princeton University and the simple technology has been used in several developing countries across the world. This will be the first application of this technology for a community-scale water system. It has the capacity to filter over 1,200 liters of water daily, serving a population of approximately 100 people. With the design, construction, and deployment of this design, we will also test its effectiveness in terms of capacity, treatment rate, and resulting water quality.
